Antique Victorian nautical maritime compass, mid to late 19th century American hand-held pocket compass. Teak hardwood mahogany case with silver alloy face, glass lens, and hand-painted black ink numeral dial. In extraordinary condition. Mahogany case without loss or noticeable damage. Wood remains supple with naturally aged teak hardwood color. Oiled finish to maintain wood's natural moisture at sea. Undisturbed cut brass plate rear hinge with three slot screws. Two intact brass swing hooks latch onto brass metal fasteners. Circa 1860-1885. Measures 3”x3”x1”. Marked: Made in France. Sold untested, as-is.
